记者玲(李心洁饰)的男友Peter获得一宗刑事案件的新闻线报,前去取证途中突然遭遇交通事故意外身亡。玲觉得事有蹊跷,调查后发现一宗模特命案。女模特Helen裸死于家中浴缸,富豪之子张承志没有不在场证据,但事件竟被警方低调处理,张承志的相关证据也被消除。玲为不愿男友枉死,誓要调查出事件真相,但报社总编辑曾达时(梁家辉饰)却不愿为玲伸出援手。无奈之下,玲只好求助常常被追债的飞(黄秋生饰)与马仔(葛民灰)帮助她调查真相。飞原来是警察出身,在调查中,他发现Peter的死因确有蹊跷。随着调查的进行,黑暗中的黑手不断想将玲置于死地,究竟事件的真相能否登上报纸的A1头条?真相与言论自由的赛跑,在香港的午夜开始。
Following her mother’s death, manga artist Soriya travels to her ancestral home in Phnom Penh, with hopes of reconnecting with her distant family and using the visit as inspiration for her work. All goes well initially. Renting an apartment in Metta, a rundown Khmer Rouge-era housing complex, her visit to her maternal relatives finds her welcomed with open arms. But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present. Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.
